Introducing SmartKDR: a study guide written from your own exam

PilotTrain’s new report reads your answers when you finish a practice exam, and sets out what to revise first.

An example SmartKDR report. Yours is written from your own answers.

PilotTrain has released SmartKDR, a personalised report that appears at the end of a full-length practice exam and tells the student what to study next. It is available now on every full-length practice exam, and it is included in every membership.

Students have always been able to see how they went: a score, and a worked explanation on every question. What that did not give them was a plan. Finding the gaps meant going back through the whole paper, right answers and wrong, and working out the pattern for themselves. SmartKDR does that part for them.

What the report shows

When an attempt is finished, SmartKDR looks at the answers that were actually given and sets out three things, under the heading Your Personalised Exam Feedback:

  • What you did well. The topics you already have solid, so you can stop spending time on them.
  • Where to focus next. The topics that cost you marks in this attempt.
  • A priority order. Which of those to revise first, so the next hour of study goes where it counts.

In the example above, most of the misses sit in take-off performance, with navigation second, while three subjects were answered without a miss. The report is ready as soon as the exam is finished. There is no need to work back through every question to see where the marks went.

Written for one attempt

Every SmartKDR is written for the attempt in front of it, and each report is unique to that attempt. Sit the same exam again, or move on to the next version, and the report changes with the answers. It is not a list of stock tips.

SmartKDR runs on full-length practice exams, for attempts that score above 50%. Quick quizzes stay as they are.

Why it is called a KDR

After a real CASA exam, a candidate is given a Knowledge Deficiency Report, or KDR, listing the areas they got wrong. It arrives once the exam is over. SmartKDR takes the same idea and brings it forward into study, where there is still time to do something about it.

KnowTAMs and streaks

Finishing an exam also earns KnowTAMs, PilotTrain’s study points, and a bigger exam earns more. Studying day after day builds a streak, and a weekly leaderboard shows how the week is going.

How to use it

Sit an exam. Check your SmartKDR. Know what to study next.

SmartKDR is a study guide built from your attempt, not a competency assessment, and is not a substitute for your instructor.

Put it into practice

Full-length practice exams with an explanation on every question, and SmartKDR to tell you what to study next. From $8.33 a month.
