Questions, answered

How the practice exams work, what’s included, and how billing and access are handled.

The exams

Are these the same questions as the real CASA exam?

No — and we’d be wary of anyone who claims otherwise. There is no way for us to know the contents of a CASA exam, it would be unethical, and it’s prohibited by the regulations.

What we do instead is closely simulate the format, style and difficulty of the real thing. The aim is that you walk in with a knowledge base solid enough to pass — and to fly safely afterwards, which is rather the point.

What is a CASA practice exam, exactly?

A test simulation built to help student pilots prepare for the theory exams set by CASA, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority. You sit it under similar conditions to the real exam, get a mark, and then see where you went wrong.

Which licences do you cover?
  • RAAus (RPC) — recreational certificate
  • RPL — Recreational Pilot Licence
  • PPL — Private Pilot Licence
  • CPL — all seven commercial subjects
  • IREX / PIFR — instrument ratings
  • PIRC — instructor rating
  • COSA — overseas conversions

One membership covers all of them, so you don’t need to buy again when you move up.

Do you have helicopter exams?

We have a full set of aeroplane exams and a growing number of helicopter exams. We’re adding rotary content rapidly, starting with PPL(H), through our partnership with Helitheory.

If the helicopter exam you need isn’t there yet, tell us — it helps us prioritise.

How many questions are in each exam?

It varies by subject, but typically 30 to 60 questions per exam, with generally four to five different exam sets to work through for each one. So you’re not memorising a single paper — you can sit the same subject repeatedly and get fresh questions.

What kinds of questions are there?

A mix of multiple choice, true/false, and fill in the blank.

Do you explain why an answer was wrong?

Yes, on every question. This is the part most people tell us made the difference: rather than just marking you down and moving on, each question comes with a worked explanation of why the correct answer is correct.

You can review any past attempt question by question from your dashboard, so a bad result becomes a study list rather than a bad afternoon.

How will this help me pass the actual exam?

Two ways. It gives you a realistic testing experience, so the real thing holds fewer surprises. And it shows you where your knowledge is thin, so your remaining study time goes where it’s needed rather than on the topics you already know.

Access & billing

What does it cost?

One membership covers every licence, aeroplane and helicopter. It works out cheapest on the longer plans — down to $8.33 a month on the 12-month option.

See all plans and prices.

Can I use it on my phone or tablet?

Yes. The exams run in your browser on any device. They are online only, so you’ll need an active internet connection — there’s no offline mode.

If you want something to work through without a connection, we also sell printed practice exams.

How long do I have access?

Access runs to the end of your current billing period, which is generally monthly unless you’ve chosen a longer plan. Some exams can also be pre-purchased.

To check your exact expiry date, log in and open the billing page on your account — or ask us.

How do I update my details or cancel?

Log in to your dashboard, then:

  • My Account — update your name, email and password
  • Billing Portal — change, pause or cancel your subscription

If anything looks wrong, get in touch and we’ll sort it out.

Do you sell printed exams and textbooks?

We do. Our printed practice exams are yours to keep, answers included, and need no internet access. We also stock theory and guide books.

Help & support

Can I ask you questions about the content?

Within reason, yes — and we do love talking about aviation. We’ll always help with anything to do with your account, billing, or an exam that looks wrong.

On the theory itself we’re a bit more limited: we’re working pilots, and for anything specific to your training or your aircraft your flight instructor is the right person to ask. They know your situation; we don’t.

Can I ask other students?

Yes — there’s an activity feed inside the app where students and instructors help each other out. It’s often the fastest way to get a second opinion on a tricky question.

I think one of your questions is wrong. What do I do?

Please tell us. Send us the exam and question and we’ll look at it. A good deal of what’s on the platform got sharper because a student pushed back on something.

Do you have plans for flight schools and clubs?

Yes. Bulk plans start at $59 a month for up to 15 students, with a portal for enrolling students and tracking their progress. See flight schools & clubs.

Still stuck?

Send us a message and we’ll reply within one business day.
